Instructor(s)

Bethany Stricker

Licensed Midwife, Certified Professional Midwife

Bethany Stricker is a Certified Professional Midwife and a Licensed Midwife in Texas. Her goal is to bring personal, safe, holistic care to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Many women go through the birthing process without a full understanding of what their care providers are recommending for their bodies and their babies. Because of this, she values ensuring families understand the benefits and risks of their options through: informed consent, educating the families she serves, and shared decision making between herself and the mother. Bethany is passionate about helping families have natural, physiological pregnancies and births where women feel empowered and loved. Through her extensive continuing education, she incorporates homeopathy, botanical medicine, dynamic body balancing, and craniosacral therapy into her practice to help her clients remain healthy and on track for their best birth. Bethany comes from a family of teachers and is passionate about creating a warm, safe environment for students to learn and thrive. She herself had twelve clinical preceptors over seven years and know that it is like to face challenges as a midwifery student. The Steps to Midwifery group was born out of a desire to make midwifery knowledge more "like Netflix" where it was accessible, affordable, and easy to find. Bethany understands that many midwifery schools lack interaction or lecture, and the Steps to Midwifery group hopes to fill the nuanced needs that midwifery students experience. In her home birth practice, she greatly enjoys involving students and finds one of her greatest joys is to see her graduated students begin their own practices. Dedication

The Steps to Midwifery Group is proudly, and humbly, dedicated to the legacy and work of Helen Jolly Nelson, a pioneer midwife in the DFW, Texas Metroplex. Helen sought out her own home birth supported by a family doctor, began attending home births of over women, opened the first freestanding birth center in Texas in the 70s, wrote the curriculum that became the Association of Texas Midwifery Training Program (ATMMTP), and contributing to the founding of MANA and NARM. Helen attended over 3000 births during her midwifery ministry and supported women in breech, twin, and VBAC births. She is loved and missed. Helen taught through story and the necessity of story telling from midwives as they learn from each other is the foundation and inspiration for the Steps to Midwifery Group.
